Kline Innovation Valvetronic Exhaust System for Type F142MFL Ferrari F8 Tributo

As the successor to the formidable 488, the Ferrari F8 has solidified its position as the new benchmark in the evolution of supercars. With its 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing an impressive 710hp, the F8 showcases remarkable performance. However, one drawback is the loss of the signature Ferrari V8 scream due to the turbo spool. Therefore, our primary design objective was to restore the iconic Ferrari howl to the F8, ensuring an exhilarating auditory experience that matches its exceptional power.

The Sound

Utilizing high-flow catalysts or racing pipes, the volume is significantly increased, while the distinct 1D CLR tight radius X-pipe signature of Kline raises the pitch to the desired Ferrari level. The exhaust system is meticulously crafted from premium F1 grade Inconel 625 superalloy, resulting in substantial weight reduction and adding a unique tonal quality that is characteristic of the Kline Inconel range, exclusive to the F8. The Kline exhaust system incorporates a valvetronic design, leveraging the stock valve control system and integrating two specially designed F8 micro silencers that are harmonically tuned. This design allows for stealthy driving without cabin resonance during cruising and the ability to unleash the unrestrained Ferrari scream when the valves are open.

Stainless Steel

In the domain of exhaust manufacturing, the prevailing industry standard revolves around the utilization of 304-grade stainless steel. This grade offers a well-balanced combination of moderate strength, thermochemical stability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of production. It enables the construction of exhaust systems that strike a practical balance between affordability and functionality, ensuring long-lasting durability. However, it’s worth noting that stainless steel is relatively heavier compared to alternative materials. While its density is similar to regular steel, it possesses slightly lower tensile strength. This limitation restricts the potential for creating high-performance exhaust components using stainless steel. Additionally, the thicker sidewalls required by stainless steel may result in a somewhat subdued and less vibrant exhaust note compared to other materials.

Inconel

Inconel 625 stands out as the ultimate choice for ensuring durability and heat resistance in the aerospace industry. This exceptional material finds extensive applications in the manufacturing of critical components, particularly exhaust turbine blades for high-performance jet engines. Inconel is notably favored in Formula One exhaust systems and has been selected by manufacturers involved in prestigious hypercar projects like the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. These applications greatly benefit from Inconel’s ability to withstand extreme temperatures exceeding 1000°C while prioritizing a lightweight design.
Inconel exhibits remarkable properties, including high tensile strength and excellent thermochemical stability. As a result, Inconel allows for the use of thin sidewall materials while maintaining structural integrity, facilitating the production of lightweight components that demonstrate exceptional resistance to fatigue over extended periods. However, working with Inconel poses certain challenges due to its difficult machinability and specific welding requirements, demanding specialized skills and time-consuming techniques. Additionally, the unique properties and specialized manufacturing processes associated with Inconel contribute to its higher cost as a raw material.

Carbon Fiber

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer exhibits an exceedingly high tensile strength to weight ratio, surpassing that of all metals. Components with extremely low weight and high tensile strength can be molded into virtually any shape. We exclusively use aerospace and Formula 1-grade pre-preg carbon fiber, cured in an autoclave at high pressure and temperature, to achieve the lightest and strongest carbon fiber suitable for the most extreme conditions.

Heat Shield

For customers prioritizing effective heat management, we offer meticulously designed heat protection solutions crafted from embossed stainless steel sheet. Each heat shield is carefully created and welded by skilled artisans to ensure optimal performance. Integrating these heat shields onto the manifolds allows for reduced heat soak and improved scavenging, resulting in enhanced overall performance and a cooler engine temperature.

What is the difference between the stainless steel and Inconel 625 options?
Both are offered. 304 stainless steel is durable and cost-effective but heavier, with the full valvetronic system weighing about 16 kilograms. Inconel 625 is the Formula One-grade superalloy, dropping the full system to about 7.5 kilograms while resisting temperatures beyond 1000 degrees Celsius. Inconel costs more but delivers the best strength-to-weight ratio and the sharpest tone.
What downpipe options are available for the Kline Innovation Valvetronic Exhaust?
Downpipes are offered with high-flow sports catalysts in 100-cell or 200-cell configurations, or racing pipes for optimum sound and flow. An optional Inconel or stainless steel downpipe heat shield is available for the 100-cell and 200-cell catalyst downpipes only, and a muffler heat shield is also offered. Both reduce heat soak for cooler underbody temperatures.
