Is the RECARO Dynamic Pole Position (ABE) street legal? Yes. The RECARO Dynamic Pole Position (ABE) carries ABE certification, the German general type approval, which is what makes it road legal as a retrofit racing shell. Belt slots are cut for a 4-point harness and it also works with a standard 3-point belt, so it can be fitted to a road car without additional approval work.
What is the difference between this and the Pole Position Carbon? The shell material. The RECARO Dynamic Pole Position (ABE) uses a one-piece GFRP shell at approximately 7.0kg, while the Carbon version uses carbon aramid composite at approximately 4.5kg. Dimensions, ergonomics, belt slot arrangement and road certification are identical; you are paying for the 2.5kg saving.
Is it FIA homologated for racing? No. This is an ABE road-approved shell rather than an FIA competition seat, so it does not carry FIA 8855-1999 homologation and will not clear tech in series that require it. Drivers needing road approval and FIA homologation in one seat should look at the Podium CF.
What upholstery options are available? Six combinations: Ambla Leather Black, Ambla Leather Black with Dinamica Suede in Black or Red, Leather Black, Nardo Black with Artista Black, and Velour Black. Velour is the motorsport fabric and grips hardest in a corner; Dinamica Suede is breathable, vegan and hypoallergenic; Nardo helps the bolsters hold their shape.
What mounts are needed? Aluminum or steel side mounts are available at additional cost, and vehicle-specific seat mounts or subframes are sold separately. Both are required to fit the seat, and the 7.0kg figure excludes them. Confirm the bracket against your chassis first, since it sets final seat height and driving position.
Is it sold as a pair? No. It is sold as a single seat, so a matching pair means two orders plus two sets of side mounts and brackets. Keep the upholstery specification identical across both orders, as the six options differ noticeably in texture and finish when sat side by side.
