Supersprint Downpipe Kit for E89 BMW Z4 35is

Supersprint’s Downpipe Kit for E89 BMW Z4 is the first pipework the exhaust gas meets after the two turbochargers on the 340 hp N54, and it is hand fabricated in Mantova rather than cut from a shelf of universal tube. Mandrel bending at a nominal 1.5mm wall keeps the bore from pinching where the pipes thread past the transmission and subframe, which is the part of any turbo car where a collapsed radius costs the most, and the threaded bung for the oxygen sensor arrives already welded in so nothing has to be opened up on the bench. This is a 35is part and only a 35is part. The 306 hp 35i takes a different piece from the Supersprint range, and the centre and rear of the system are bought separately.

Construction

Supersprint fabricates rather than presses, which matters most at the turbo end, where the pipework clears the block, the steering shaft and the subframe inside a few millimetres. Flanges are CNC machined from stainless plate 7mm to 12mm thick, heavy enough to hold their face against a hot turbine housing instead of dishing and leaking.

Supersprint fabricates by hand in Mantova, with mandrel bent stainless pipework at a nominal 1.5mm wall so the bore holds through the bends, TIG or MIG welded joints, and CNC machined stainless flanges between 7mm and 12mm thick. The heaviest thermal duty pipework in the Supersprint range moves to AISI 310S or Inconel.
Is a tune required? Supersprint does not publish a tuning requirement for this kit. Any change to the pipework ahead of the oxygen sensor can alter what the factory calibration reads, so discuss your combination with your tuner before the car goes back on the road. We are not able to advise on emissions compliance in your state.
Is this part still available? Supersprint lists it as a discontinued part available while remaining stock lasts, and as built on demand rather than held on a shelf. Bulletproof Automotive lists it on backorder for that reason and will confirm the current position with Supersprint when your order is placed.

Supersprint has built exhaust systems in Mantova, Italy since 1955, designing and manufacturing in house rather than assembling bought-in parts. Piping is AISI 304 stainless at a nominal 1.5mm wall, mandrel bent and TIG or MIG welded to CNC machined stainless flanges 7mm to 12mm thick; AISI 310S and Inconel come out where thermal load is highest, and catalyst hardware comes from HJS. Every application is developed against a baseline measured on the AWD MAHA dynamometer in Mantova, which is why the catalogue is model specific rather than universal.
